As social media grows in popularity, companies are experimenting with new ways to use this platform to marketing themselves. One of the most popular and effective ways brands are using social media today is through social media promotions, such as sweepstakes, contests, and giveaways.

Although these promotions are easy to set up and run, it’s important to keep your campaign goals in mind so that you maximize the ROI of your promotions. Here’s how to do that in three easy steps:

  1. Set Your KPIs. Take some time before your campaign begins to identify your Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). For Facebook promotions specifically, these might include distribution, interaction, influence, lead generation, and conversion. Stay away from “likes,” as they tend to have little relevance to your campaign success.
  2. Measure Your Efforts. Greg Macek, VP of Digital Strategy at Marketing Resources, recommends using the Facebook Ad Conversion Pixel to your site to make measurement easier and give you a clearer image of how your Facebook ad efforts are doing.
  3. Maximize Your Return. This can be done by choosing your prize, writing your promotional post, and promoting your sweepstakes. Your prize should be relevant to your business, and include an image of it in your post to increase interaction and visibility. Your promotional post should be simple and include the prize and its value in the title of your post; explain how to enter using easy-to-follow bullet points. And of course you’ll promote your contest on Facebook, but branch out to other social media channels as well. You can also utilize your website and industry influencers to help spread the word.

Social media contests may have a limited number of official “winners,” but by maximizing your promotion and measuring your ROI, you and your customers will all be winners.
